Yellow monkey flower, or yellow mimulus (Mimulus guttatus) usually grows in wet areas but occasionally is found on dry slopes (as were these). a large, colorful perennial native to southern California and Baja California.   Its big tubular flowers are favored by bees and hummingbirds, and often grow in impressive clusters.   These were photographed in pine-oak woodlands in the San Jacinto Mountains in Riverside County, California.
