Paintbrush (Castilleja)
Images copyright by Mark A. Chappell

The good rains in the late winter and spring of 2005 brought a profusion of wildflowers to much of California.   In the eastern Sierra Nevada, the various species of paintbrush were abundant along streams and in meadows; these pictures were taken along upper Rock Creek and nearby McGee Creek.   For many of these images I used a very long lens to isolate the blossoms against a softly blurred background; for others I used a wideangle to show the flowers in their mountain habitat.
