Hairy clematis, or sugarbowls        Images © Mark A. Chappell

These little flowers (hairy clematis, or shugarbowls; Clematis hirsutissima) were growing in high-altitude meadows in Yellowstone Park.   They were quite difficult to photograph because the opening of the flower points almost directly downward; these were on steep slopes and I was able to lie on my back and get underneath them with a macro lens.
