'Blue dicks'        Images © Mark A. Chappell

'Blue dicks' (Dichelostemma capitatum), members of the onion family, are common grassland blossoms in California springs with good rains.   These were growing in several locations in western Riverside, California; the one at upper right has a substantial aphid problem.   The yellow or orange backgrounds of some images comes from large expanses of goldfields or California poppies.
