Desert delphinium        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Desert delphinium (Delphinium scaposum) is something of an oddity because most delphiniums, or larkspurs, prefer to grow in moist habitats, such as in mountain meadows or streambanks.   The desert delphinium have a somewhat faded coloration compared to the rich blue and purple colors of most larkspurs.   These were growing near Cajon Pass in San Bernardino County, California, and in the nearby Joshua Tree National Park, during the spring of 2008.
