Desert bluebells (Canterbury bells)
Images copyright by Mark A. Chappell

These lovely flowers (Phacelia campanularia) closely resemble the more coastal species of Canterbury bells but are a more intense blue color, and are found in arid deserts after good rains. These were growning along a wash at the south end of Joshua Tree National Park in southeastern California.
