Ceonothus (wild lilac)        Images © Mark A. Chappell

The bright blue flower spikes of 'wild lilac' (Ceanothus thyrsiflorus) are abundant in California chaparral in years with good rains.   The tiny but intricate flowers are attractive to lots of bees and other pollinators, and have an attractive scent.  These were growing at the Santa Rosa Plateau in southern California.
