Western gray squirrel        Images © Mark A. Chappell

The eastern, western, and Arizona gray squirrels closely resemble each other -- they are gray with wite bellies, short ears (compared to tassle-eared squirrels), and very large, fluffy tails.   These were photographed on the Monterey Peninsula and the San Jacinto Mountains, both in California.
