Rock squirrels are large, long-tailed ground squirrels from the American southwest. They closely resemble the more westerly California ground squirrel but lack the latter's gray sholders. These were photographed near the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum near Tucson, Arizona; one has a bit of red stain on its cheek from eating watermelon swiped from a black bear enclosure. |
