Pretty-faced wallaby        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Australia has a number of small and medium-sized kangaroo relatives (wallabies, pademelons, potoroos, etc.); this species, the pretty-faced wallaby, is common in forest fringes in the north and east.   They are crepuscular or nocturnal like many small marsupials, and I photographed this one a bit after sunset in Kuranda, far north Queensland.
