Harbor seal        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Harbor seals are common (but usually unobtrusive) residents of coastal waters in much of North America.   They have cute, 'kittenish' or 'puppy-like' faces with very appealing big dark eyes.   However, they are very effective fish predators (as the somewhat-the-worse-for-wear salmon in the right photo might attest).   These seals were photographed in Skagway, Alaska.
