Eastern cottontail

Several species of cottontail rabbits (Sylvilagus) are common across much of North America; often they are simply called 'cottontals'.   This one is the eastern cottontail (S. floridanus), the most common rabbit in most of eastern North America.   This one was sitting in a small open area on the Konza Prairie near Manhattan, Kansas.   Its fur is a bit damp due to recent rains and wet vegetation.
