Coati        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Coatis (or coatimundis) are mainly tropical animals but they also occur in a small are in southeastern Arizona.   They are normally social animals, but this individual was by himself.   He was picking up scraps around the bird feeders in Madera Canyon, south of Tucson in the Santa Rita mountains.   I took a lot of pictures, but most of the time he was in dappled sunlight and the images were poor, but at one point he moved into a shaded leafy gully with soft light.
