Ridge-nosed rattlesnake        Images © Mark A. Chappell

These little rattlesnakes are rare and highly local in a few mountain ranges in south-eastern Arizona and adjacent New Mexico and Mexico. Finding one is a red-letter day for most herpetologists. This snake was basking near a small stream in pine forest in Ramsey Canyon, in Arizona's Huachuca Mountains.
