Owens Valley moonset        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Moonrises and moonsets are very difficult to accomplish in single exposures, due to the extreme brightness differences between the moon, sky, and earth after sunset.   In these images, I used a long exposure (15-20 seconds) to record the faint moonlight on the Earth, and this caused considerable overexposure of the moon.
