Evening and morning clouds, SNARL        Images © Mark A. Chappell

The Sierra Nevada Aquatic Research Lab is a field station of the University of California, in Mono County in eastern California.   SNARL sits on Convict Creek on the east slope of the Sierra.   My work there requires that I be out and about at dawn and dusk.  These pictures show light on cloud formations over the Sierra and the White Mountains to the east. The picture below at right shows Long Valley, with SNARL at the extreme left and the lab's 'Green Church' meeting rooms and Highway 395 to the east; directly ahead are Mammoth Mountain, the Minarets, and Ritter and Banner Peaks.
