Australian kestrel        Images © Mark A. Chappell

This pale and graceful small falcon can be seen in most parts of Australia, from arid deserts to forests.   However, like most kestrels it is primarily a bird of open country, perching on trees, rocks, or other lookouts or hovering on long wings while searching for prey (mainly insects and small vertebrates).   These were photographed in several locations in southwestern Western Australia.
Another small falcon found across the Australian continent is the little falcon, or Australian hobby.
