Red-winged blackbird        Images © Mark A. Chappell

The ubiquitous red-winged blackbird is common throughout much of North America.  Birds in the west tend to lack the big yellowish border on their red wing patches.  These flocks were photographed near groups of feeding sandhill cranes and snow geese at Bosque del Apache refuge in New Mexico.

Sitting redwings are on this page.
