Chestnut-sided warbler        Images © Mark A. Chappell

The chestnut-sided warbler is one of my favorite wood warblers.   These birds, without the chestnut sides, are in winter-plumage; they were in Fairmount Park in Riverside, California or the nearby San Jacinto Wildlife Area.   Although not as flashy as breeding males, they're quite attractive, with bright wing bars and yellow-green backs and crowns.  One of these, a male, overwintered and I was able to photograph it in April after it attained full breeding plumage.
