Blackburnian warbler        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Blackburnian warblers breed in eastern North America and normally winter in Latin America, but occasionally they move considerably out of their normal range.   These fall vagrants were photographed in Pacific Grove, Monterey, and Moss Landing, California; they are much less colorful than breeding plumage males, which are among the brightest of the North American wood warblers.
