Field sparrow        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Field sparrows are easily recognized by their gray faces, rusty crowns, thin eyerings, and pink bills.   They're common in the eastern half of the US; this wintering bird was photographed in a brushpile in Perdenales Falls State Park, near San Antonio, Texas.
