Blue grosbeak

Blue grosbeaks like weedy, brushy areas for breeding; these males were defending a territory at the Hidden Valley Wildlife Area near Riverside, California.   In the upper images, the left bird is not quite fully molted into breeding plumage, but the bird in the right image certainly is.   The lower image shows a female (I think; there are faint traces of blue feathers in various places).
