Henslow's sparrow

The Henslow's sparrow is a somewhat secretive grassland species that breeds in the east-central US and winters in the southeast. They favor grassy areas with some tall standing dead stems. Their characteristic olive-green eyebrow and neck areas, plus belly streaks, heavy bill, and 'scaly' back markings are diagnostic. These birds were still singing in early July on the Konza Prairie near Manhattan, Kansas.
