Icterine warbler        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Icterine warblers closely resemble chiffchaffs and wood warblers; expert European birders can easily identify them with a brief glance but novices to that continent's avifauna (like me) are greatly helped by the very different songs each species produces.   All are spring migrants/summer breeders in Europe; this bird was photographed (with difficulty, as it seldom stopped moving for more than a couple of seconds) in the small town of Bialowieza, in north-eastern Poland.
