Blue tit        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Many species of tits occur in Europe and Asia.   The blue tit, shown here, is one of the smallest but most colorfully marked (compare it to the marsh tit and the larger great tit).   They are charming little birds with a lot of character; typically in small flocks in winter and in pairs during the breeding season.   Some (males?) are more brightly marked than others (females?), but all are lovely little birds.   Like all tits, they are hard to photograph because they seldom stop moving for more than a couple of seconds.   Most of these pictures are of individuals coming to a tiny forest creek to bathe.   The photos were taken near Bialowieza, Poland.
