Chestnut-backed chickadee        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Chestnut-backed chickadees are among the more colorful of the chickadees (although this one is looking a little ragged from post-breeding molt).   They are birds of western coastal forests from California to Alaska; these were photographed near Seward, Alaska and the Monterey Peninsula, California.
