White-browed tit-spinetail        Images © Mark A. Chappell

White-browed tit-spinetails are one of many Furnariid 'ovenbirds' in South America.   It is largely restricted to high-altitude Polylepis forests (a shrubby tree), which are disappearing due to extensive firewood cutting.   This one was photographed at Abra Malaga Pass, at about 4300 m altitude (about 14,500 feet) near Cuzco, Peru.   It did not sit still long enough, or come close enough, to allow a good image.
