Pine flycatcher        Images © Mark A. Chappell

The pine flycatcher is a highland Mexican species is extremely rare in the US.  They have a fairly distinctive call but resemble many other Empidonax flycatchers. Important field marks are overall olive-gray coloration, a prominent eyering, entirely yellow-orange lower mandible, and a grayish throat.   This bird -- the second North American record -- was photographed near Rose Lake in the Catalina Mountains of Arizona.
