Green jay        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Green jays are a spectacular specialty of south Texas, eagerly sought by birders and very abundant in the Rio Grande Valley.   Possibly due to climate change (or perhaps because they can adapt to the presence of humans), they appear to be expanding to the northeast.   Like all jays, they are social, noisy, intelligent, and versatile birds.   These were photographed at several places in south Texas.   A close relative, the Inca jay, is found in the Andes.
