Purple-throated woodstar        Images © Mark A. Chappell

The little purple-throated woodstar is an abundant mid-altitude hummingbird of the northern Andes.   These males were attending feeders at Montezuma Lodge near Tatama National Park in southeastern Colombia; as usual with hummingbirds the gorget color varies considerably depending on viewing and light direction.
