Mountain velvetbreasts are named for their high-altitude habitat and the males' striking black 'velvety' belly that contrasts with the glittering green chest and throat.   I photographed this male (above) and female at about 3300 m on the slopes of Nevado del Ruiz volcano, near the city of Manizales, Colombia.
