Gray-headed woodpecker        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Of the 9 woodpecker species found in the Bialowieza Forest region of Northeastern Poland, this species, the gray-headed (or 'grey-headed' if you prefer), is one of the most sought-after by birders.   They are highly sedentary but hard to find.   I got only a couple of badly backlit shots of this individual near the 'Palace Park' in the town of Bialowieza.
