Western ringneck        Images © Mark A. Chappell

The various subspecies of ringneck parrots have long posed taxonomic problems, but one current view is of two species, the eastern ringneck (including the Cloncurry and mallee ringnecks) and the western ringneck.   All are long-tailed, medium-sized parrots with the same basic color pattern, but the intensity of colors can be strikingly different.   These were photographed in the small town or Nornalup and Dryandra Reserve, and in Kings Park in Perth, all in southwestern Western Australia.
