Lilac-breasted roller        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Lilac-breasted rollers are frequently seen perched prominently on trees and telephone poles in eastern Africa. They are very attractive when sitting and even more so when they fly out to catch insect prey, showing flashing blue wing feathers. The bird at left was photographed in the Serengeti Plains in northwestern Tanzania; the other bird was in Tsavo National Park, Kenya.
