King parrots are found in the forests of eastern Australia, but may also occur in urban areas if there are sufficient trees.   The male at upper left (females lack the red plumage on the head and neck) was photographed in Lamington National Park, Queensland; the other birds were on the Atherton Tableland in far north Queensland.
