Middle-spotted woodpecker

Three species of 'spotted' woodpeckers are found in Europe: the lesser-spotted, great-spotted, and this species, the middle-spotted woodpecker. All are typical woodpeckers in form, habits, and voice. I got just a single quick photograph of this individual as it peeked at me around a tree trunk near Bialowieza, Poland.
