Broad-winged hawk        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Broad-winged hawks are small forest buteos that breed in eastern North America and migrate (sometimes in huge flocks) to South America for the boreal winter.   A few spend the winter in the southern US and California. This bird is a juvenile, recognizable from the white eyeline and dark 'moustache'.  I took the pictures from a car at Fort DeSoto Park in Florida.
