Ruppell's griffon        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Ruppell's griffons are big, common vultures in east Africa, and have a rather striking plumage pattern with intricate light-dark checkering on the back and wings.   Like many vultures they are fond of bathing and socializing (when not looking for food or fighting over it).   These resting and mating birds were photographed near a small bathing pond in Nairobi National Park, Kenya.
