Guans and chachalacas are vaguely chicken-like birds from Central and South America, living in forests and other dense vegetation and often making their presence know with their loud calls. There are several species of guans; this is the Andean guan from high-altitude cloud forests. The pictures were taken near Wayqecha Station on the Manu Road in southeastern Peru (about 3000 m above sea level), and on the slopes of Los Nevados volcano near Manizales, Colombia. |
