The black-headed gull is a Eurasian species that is fairly frequent in northeastern North America but much less so on the west coast. This winter-plumaged adult was the third record for Riverside County in southern California; it appeared at a fish farm near the Salton Sea late in 2016. It resembled a large Bonaparte's gull (it was with a big flock of that species), but with a reddish bill and dark undersides to the primaries. |
