Black-tailed godwit

Black-tailed godwits breed in nothern Europe and Asia; they are rarities in North America.   The breeding plumage, shown here, is quite flashy and they have some dramatic flight and wing-flapping displays to show it off. These photos of spring-plumaged birds foraging in a meadow or cruising past at high speed were taken in the wetlands of Biebrza National Park, in northeastern Poland.
