Musk duck        Images © Mark A. Chappell

The interesting but (in my opinion) not very attractive musk duck is distributed throughout Australia, and can be found even on isolated ponds in the dry Outback.   They have dark mottled plumage and males sport a large fleshy lobe under the bill.   These pictures were taken on a stock-watering pond at Fowlers Gap research station in the northwest corner of New South Wales.
