Mandarin duck        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Mandarin ducks are among the most colorful and outlandishly decorated of all waterfowl.   Closely related to the North American wood duck, they are native to China and eastern Asia (as their name implies).   Mandarin ducks are common in collections, and these birds are captive specimens.
