Blue-winged teal        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Male blue-winged teal are easily identified by their blue-gray face with a bright white half-moon in front of the eye.  As with most ducks, the female is a camouflaged brown, since she has to be inconspicuous while incubating her eggs.   These teal were photographed at the Salton Seal in California.   More images of this species are here.
