Common egrets are are quintessential wetland birds with long necks and legs, white plumage, and during breeding season, long flimy plumes along the back.   These birds were photographed at Little Estero Lagoon in Florida (upper left and several of the photos below), Merritt Island, Florida (in mangrove, with breeding plumes), Bolsa Chica wetlands in coastal Orange County, California, and Palo Alto, California.   Like many birds, they often look their best in early dawn light.
