Brandt's cormorant

The breeding-plumage Brandt's cormorant at left shows the filmy white plumes that appear only in late winter and spring, along with a bright blue throat pouch. This picture was taken at the 'Caves', on the coast in La Jolla, California. The breeding colony at right is on a rock just offshore of Pacific Grove, California.
