As their name implies, Neotropic cormorants are usually found in the tropics and subtropics of Central and South America.   However, they occur regularly in Texas, Arizona, and the Salton Sea region of southern California, where these photos were taken.   The birds were at a small farm pond (one is shown swimming in back of an out-of-focus juvenile male hooded merganser).
