Green lynx spider(Peucetia viridans)        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Lynx spiders lurk in vegetation, waiting to ambush small insects that may come along.   Unlike most spiders, they do not use a web to catch prey, but depend on stealth instead.   Often they can be found on the underside of leaves; this one was sitting under a small native tobacco plant in Two Trees Canyon in Riverside, California (eating a tiny moth).
