Eastern pondhawk (Libellula luctuosa)        Images © Mark A. Chappell

Eastern pondhawks are blue (males; shown here) or brilliant green (females) and as their name implies are frequently found around ponds or other bodies of water.   They are quite similar to western pondhawks.   These individuals were photographed near Manhattan, Kansas in early summer.
