This small dragonfly is descriptively named (unlike many birds).   Both sexes have dark bodies with bright white faces and a small pale spot on the abdomen.   Males are more blackish; females are more brown-colored.  They were very common in western Montana and southeastern Idaho, where I took these pictures.
